DELICIOUS ASIAN FUSION | YÜGO, BELFAST

On my first full day back in Belfast for summer, myself and my friend Elizabeth decided to go to Yügo in the city centre. From the outside you wouldn't know that it was a top 100 restaurant in the UK, but you can sense the quality from stepping into the intimate location. The ceiling being a notable feature of the decor across the Belfast Instagram scene.

Elizabeth booked us a 7:45pm table on the Wednesday night, and although being midweek, you definitely needed a reservation. Almost all of the tables were full when we arrived, the last empty table being filled not long after we sat down. We were seated along the bar where we had a prime view of the chefs at work.

Eager to jump onto the bao bun bandwagon, I opted for the BBQ chicken thigh, tartare and spring onion bao bun. The chicken was juicy and paired perfectly with the tartare and fluffy bao bun. This was £4.50 which I think is an incredibly affordable price to add onto an order with various small dishes.

Next, I had the blackened salmon with shimeji, sesame and chilli oil. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the flavours all worked together perfectly. This was classed as a "smalls" dish, though I wish I could've had more of it! For £8.50 it was pricier than the bao bun but rightly so.

Elizabeth opted for the penang curry on the separate vegetarian and vegan menu which I dipped some of our togarashi seasoned chips into. Her curry was a "bigs" dish and very reasonably priced at £12 including a side bowl of rice. The bowl of chips were £4 and a very delicious side to the meal to nibble on.

We really enjoyed our meal here, and would love to go back to try some of their other dishes - particularly the sushi that looked so good while being made in front of us. The service was fast and efficient, where the servers seemed genuinely passionate about ensuring you had a good meal. If you enjoy asian fusion cuisine then you definitely try this place out!
