TOURIST FOR THE DAY: STRATFORD-UPON-AVON

Recently I spent 10 days visiting my best friend in Birmingham to hang out - as we obviously couldn't get enough of each other after being in Thailand together. On one of the days we took a drive to Stratford-Upon-Avon to check out the sights of the historic town and have a nosey at the birthplace of Shakespeare!

Sadly we didn't get too close to any of the actual Shakespeare exhibitions as they were about £20 each entry but we didn't let that get us down. Following a cheeky photoshoot in front of some old houses, we wandered about the town.

We thought coffee and cake would be the perfect lunch time activity, picking to go to Hobsons Patisseries as it looked super busy and about as typical English as you could get. I intended to get a cream tea but after seeing the amazing variety of cakes they had, I ended up opting for a Chocolate Mouse Gateux! Aside from being attacked by wasps, it was a lovely cafe and perfect in the sun (maybe not so perfect now the cold and rain has arrived).

Next, we rented a rowing boat for half an hour along the River Avon. All looks well in the picture but this was before we ended up being blown into the restricted nature reserve section and had onlookers laugh at our struggle to get back out. That struggle took up most of our half an hour but its definitely an entertaining excursion!

Lastly, we opted for some fish and chips for tea sat on a bench in the park across the bridge from the town. Obviously it started raining though (what more could you expect on this typical English day?) and we were being taunted by geese, but once we got over that it was the perfect ending to our day!

To anyone looking for something to do for a day around the Birmingham area, I would definitely recommend a visit. The year abroad bug of wanting to visit as many new places as possible has definitely not left me yet as I'm still keen to visit so many places in England that I haven't been to yet!

Are there any English towns you want to go to? Let me know if you have any suggestions!
