ROYAL SUNDAY IN KENSINGTON | KENSINGTON PALACE AND URBAN BARISTAS, KENSINGTON
Oh how time flies, this time last week I was gallivanting around London and fast-forward to now, I'm sat in my room hiding from Storm Ciara.
I had a spare day to kill in London and decided I wanted to do something different. I searched through the work benefits website from my job and found a link to get free admission to Kensington Palace! So I trekked over to the West (a path less followed by me) and explored the home of Will and Kate!
There's a number of exhibitions available at the minute, the most extensive one exploring the childhood of Queen Victoria. A series of rooms gives an in-depth view of the Queen's childhood and some of the tragedies which surrounded it and shaped her into the Queen she was. Downstairs, the Queen's State Apartments was closed, but I was able to explore the 'Diana: Designing for a Princess' exhibition (which was much smaller than I would've hoped) and the King's State Apartments. The Palace provides some beautiful sights and its a great way to spend a few hours.
This follows on from my year abroad bug of wanting to travel and visit new places whenever I can, so I encourage you all to be a tourist in your own city and see what sights you can uncover!
Afterwards, I of course had to find a brunch spot to round off the day, so I made a visit to Urban Baristas on Queensway.
It was pretty busy for a Sunday lunchtime and I struggled to get a seat at first and ended up moving to a more comfortable seat when one became free. This is very much a serve yourself cafe where you seat yourself, fetch your own menus and order your own food which I didn't expect but not a deal breaker.
I wanted to try something different so I went for their Scrambled Eggs on Courgette Bread. The eggs were beautifully scrambled and went perfectly with the slightly cheesy bread and tomato chutney on the side. It perfectly hit the spot after a few hours wondering around the palace. It was washed down with an Iced Latte made with Union Coffee. Iced lattes can sometimes be a bit too watery or not sweet enough for me but this one also hit the spot.
If you're around the Kensington area and want to plan a wholesome weekend outing, I hope this blog post can inspire you!
